Every time London has a big thaw or a significant amount of rainfall our sewage treatment facilities get completely overwhelmed and the sh!t hits the fan. You see London still has a large number of sewers that service both household waste and water runoff in the same pipe and when there's too much water the treatment facilities can no longer keep up. When the system is overwhelmed there's no choice but to dump excrement into the Thames, untreated.
For a city that has designs to be a "green" city dumping that much poop into a heritage river is a skid mark on our report card. How would you like to live downstream from that?
At the next Pints join us as Sandy Levin and Tom Cull tell us what the city is doing to address this sh!t show and what citizens can do (if anything) to keep the poo out of our river.
As usual, doors open at 5:30pm and we start things off at 6:00pm. We'll chat for 1 hour using the normal rules: everybody gets to speak but only for two minutes and the mic only comes back around after everyone has had an opportunity to speak.
